Senior classes are more intensive with greater emphasis on aerobic,
strength and conditioning exercises. Traditional karate values are
adhered to.
Classes generally consist of:
10 min warm up exercises
50 min kihon (basics) with a focus on either aerobic or strength work
25 min bunkai including kumite, kakie or similar xercises
25 min kata
10 min cool down exercises
On a regular basis extended sessions are held on kata, kumite, hojo
undo and ura tanden.
Very little tournament technique is taught. Focus is instead on practical
bunkai that will work in self defense situations and build karateka
confidence in their own abilities.
Full contact is used during kumite, i.e. if the technique is not blocked or
evaded it will make contact with the intended target. Anything less then
the practice is of little practical use.
Juniors are not allowed to train in the Senior Class unless approved by
the Branch Chief Instructor.
